DENVER- Northern Arizona's Alina Staffeldt and Christina Torrente have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Oct. 24-31.
Staffeldt, a junior from Hannover, Germany, won all three of her individual events against New Mexico, tallying the only three swimming wins for NAU in the meet. She placed first in the 200 fly, 100 fly, and 100 free. She is currently ranked first in the WAC in the 200 fly (2:01.51) and second in the 100 fly (56:32).
Torrente, a sophomore from Redmond, Wash., claimed her first career dual meet win on the 3-meter board against New Mexico with a score of 312.00. She also placed fourth in the 1-meter with a 277.28. Torrente scored high enough in both events to qualify for the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships.
Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Paola Hernandez placed first in three individual events against Cal Baptist and her 200 medley relay time (1:47.02) is now CSUB's best time of the season… Idaho's Clothilde Peseux won two individual events against Colorado State and one against NMSU and Northern Colorado.
Other diver nominees: Idaho's Janelle Lucas won the 3-meter against Colorado State with a score of 282.30… CSU Bakersfield's Carlee Burks placed first in the 1-meter with a season best score (259.58) and won the 3-meter by 60 points (303.90).
