WAC Tennis Players of the Month Announced- Nov. 2

DENVER - NM State's Cristofer Goncalves and Chicago State's Lorea Gamboa have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Month, respectively, for October.

Goncalves, a junior from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, posted an 8-1 singles mark and a 7-1 doubles record this month. At the Balloon Fiesta, he won the singles flight and the doubles flight with partner Luis Flores. Goncalves extended his singles winning streak to 12 matches before being defeated in the quarterfinals at the ITA Regionals. In doubles, Goncalves and Flores posted a three game winning streak. This is his second WAC Athlete of the Month honor this season.

Gamboa, a junior from Gamiz-Fika, Spain, went 5-2 in singles and 4-3 in doubles during the month of October. She won three matches at the Western Michigan Bronco Invitational to advance to the Silver Division finals. She also earned three more individual wins in dual matches against Minnesota Duluth and Elmhurst College. She posted a three match win streak in doubles with partner Carynne Lloyd.

Other male nominees: Lorenzo Fucile of GCU posted a 5-1 singles record and a 2-2 doubles record this month… UMKC's Airam Castellano went 4-4 in singles during October and became first UMKC player to make it to round 16 in the ITA Central Regional… Gonzalo Martinez of Chicago State went 7-3 this month and was just one win shy of qualifying for the main draw at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Other female nominees: Seattle U's Michelle Lui went 1-1 in singles and beat a PAC 12 opponent in doubles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships… Tatum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon was the doubles champion at Long Beach and the defeated the ninth seed in doubles at ITA Regionals.
