WAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Grand Canyon's Estela Davis Ortiz and Northern Arizona's Raquel Gonzales have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Nov. 15-21.

Ortiz, a junior from Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, won three events and placed top 5 in three more events at the Northwestern TYR Invitational. Her first place times for the 200 back (1:55.87) and 100 back (54.49) both rank number one in the WAC. Her 400 IM (4:19.10) also ranks first in the WAC. Her times this weekend for the 200 fly (2:03.07) and 200 IM (2:03.56) are the second-fastest in the WAC.

Gonzales, a sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., was NAU's top diver in their home meet against New Mexico State, Boise State, San Jose State, San Diego State, and Nevada. In the Platform, she placed first out of 21 divers with a score of 224.15. Her 3 meter score of 273.05 placed seventh overall.

Other swimmer nominees: Northern Arizona's Alina Staffeldt placed second in the 200 fly (2:00.18) with the fastest time in the WAC at the Lumberjack Invitational… CSUB's Paola Hernandez posted season bests in the 100 back, 100 free, and 200 IM at the A3 Performance Invitational.

Other diver nominees: GCU's Menna El Midany placed third in the 3 meter (216.15) and fifth in the Platform (179.0) at the Northwestern TYR Invitational.
