DENVER - Grand Canyon's Mark Nikolaev and Pietro Toscani have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Nov. 15-21.
Nikolaev, a sophomore from Seltso, Russia, placed first in all of his events at the Northwestern TYR Invitational. His 100 back (46.05), 200 free (1:37.41), 200 IM (1:47.38), and his 200 back (1:45.38) times all rank number one in the WAC. He is ranked second in the WAC for his 100 free (44.03) and 50 free (20.21). All of his times from the Invitational also made the DI-B cut.
Toscani, a freshman from Sao Palo, Brazil, placed second in the 1-meter (312.0) and the 3-meter (318.3) at the Northwestern TYR Invitational. He also placed fourth in the Platform with a score of 233.25.
Other swimmer nominees: CSUB's Lovre Soric was the leading points scorer for the Runners and posted season bests in the 100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM at the A3 Performance Invitational… Air Force's Steffen Mount set two individual school records and two relay records at the GAC Invitational… Seattle U's Morgan Montemayer placed first in both the 200 free and the 100 back in the Redhawks' win against Pacific Lutheran… UNLV's Tom Paco-Pedroni finished second in the 100 free (43.05) at the Mizzou Invite with the sixth-fastest time in the nation.
