Five WAC Women's Soccer Players Earn NSCAA All-Region Honors

Five WAC Women's Soccer Players Earn NSCAA All-Region Honors
KANSAS CITY - Five WAC women's soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West Region team. Seattle U's Brie Hooks and Utah Valley's Kalli Suesue were named to the second team, while UMKC's Kelsey Mothershead joined SU's Stephanie Spiekerman and Karli White on the third team.

Hooks, a senior forward from Maple Valley, Wash. (Tahoma HS), was the WAC Offensive Player of the Year as Seattle U went undefeated in conference play, earning its fourth-straight WAC regular season title and the WAC Tournament title. She led the team with three assists and scored two of her team-high seven goals during WAC play, while firing 25 shots. The transfer from Colorado scored four game-winning goals for the Redhawks on the year.

Suesue, a senior defender from Gilbert, Arizona (Gilbert HS), anchored the Wolverine defense to six shutouts on the season. The senior defender helped the UVU defense to a 1.20 goals allowed per game average. Suesue also helped on the offensive side, tallying one goal and two assists for four points. She also registered seven shots, including three on goal during the season. Suesue earned first team All-WAC honors after helping the team to a 10-8-2 overall record.

Mothershead, a sophomore forward from Smithville, Mo. (Smithville HS) led the Roos with seven goals on the season and two assists for a total of 16 points. She was named first team All-WAC on the year and recorded just the third hat trick in UMKC women's soccer history in a 4-0 victory over Oral Roberts on Sept. 25.

Spiekerman, a junior forward from Seattle, Wash. (Bishop Blanchet HS), was the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and led a Seattle U defense that went unbeaten in WAC play, allowing just five goals on its way to a fourth-straight WAC regular season title and the WAC Tournament title. The Redhawks' defense picked up three shutouts and allowed only 18 shots on goal in seven WAC matches.

White, a sophomore forward from North Bend, Washington (Mount Si HS), recorded six goals along with three assists in 21 matches as SU claimed the WAC regular season and tournament titles. She tallied three game-winning goals on the year for the Redhawks and added the equalizing goal in the first half of the WAC Tournament championship match.
