Seattle U Interviews

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - No. 1 Seattle U jumped out to an early lead and held off a rally from No. 4 Utah Valley, earning a berth in the championship match of the WAC Women Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 victory. The Redhawks will face the winner of tonight's match between No. 2 CSU Bakersfield and No. 3 UMKC on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

The Redhawks jumped on the Wolverines early behind a Natasha Howe strike in the 12th minute. It was her fourth goal against the Wolverines in the last two matches, after recording a hat trick in last week's 3-1 victory over UVU. WAC Offensive Player of the Year Brie Hooks found Howe wide open on the left side of the box and the SU midfielder smashed home a left-footed effort.

SU doubled the lead less four minutes later, as Isabelle Butterfield was able to control a Karli White cross in front of UVU goalkeeper Brooklyn Nielsen and tap the ball into the open net.

The Wolverines refused to fold and chased the match, pressing for much of the second half, before Sara Callister outpaced the heart of the SU defense to pull UVU within a goal in the 73rd minute. UVU's Sheridan Fox picked up an assist on the goal, but that was all the Wolverines could muster as SU killed the match.
