UMKC senior guard LaVell Boyd has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 19-25. This is his first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and the second of his career.

The Chicago native scored a career-high 32 points vs. UT Martin last Tuesday, the fourth-highest scoring output in the WAC this season and the most points scored by a UMKC player since Dec. 28, 2014. Boyd also tied a career-high with seven three-pointers on 58.3 percent shooting from downtown and connected on 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) at the free throw line. He added four rebounds and two steals with no turnovers in the contest. Boyd, who entered the week averaging 19.3 points per game, now ranks second in the WAC in scoring (20.2), third in both free throw percentage (85.3) and three-pointers per game (3.07), fourth in assists (3.71) and three-point percentage (42.6) and seventh in assist-turnover ratio (1.41).

Other nominees included: Damiyne Durham of CSU Bakersfield finished with 22 points, one assist and one steal in a loss at BYU ... Chicago State's Fred Sims Jr. averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists as the Cougars went 1-2 last week ... DeWayne Russell of Grand Canyon averaged 29.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals as the Lopes went 2-0 on the week ... NM State's Jemerrio Jones finished with 23 points and 18 rebounds in an overtime win over UC Irvine ... Brendan Westendorf of Seattle U averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Redhawks went 1-1 on the week ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Antonio Green finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocks in a victory last week ... Isaac Neilson of Utah Valley averaged 11.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks as the Wolverines went 1-1 last week.
