DENVER - NM State's Brooke Salas has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 8 through Feb. 14.
Salas, a freshman guard from Placentia, Calif. (El Dorado HS), set a new season-high with 22 points, adding eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in a win over Chicago State. She opened up the second half with 10 straight points, adding five more points in the fourth quarter to record 15 of her 22 points in the final 20 minutes.
Other nominees included: Chicago State's Kaylee Allen paced the Cougars with 18 points and eight rebounds as they played first-place NM State tough … Missouri-Kansas City's Samantha Waldron scored in double figures for the fourth straight game with 16 points in a win at UT Rio Grande Valley … UT Rio Grande Valley's Shawnte' Goff scored a season-high 25 points as the Vaqueros fell at home to UMKC … Utah Valley's Sam Loggins nearly collected the double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, also adding five blocks, in a win over CSU Bakersfield.
