UTAH VALLEY'S FREY NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Utah Valley junior forward Konner Frey has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21. This is his first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Bountiful, Utah, native averaged a double-double of 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Wolverines went 2-0 on the week. Frey opened the week with 14 points and nine rebounds in a win over Chicago State. He then recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a come-from-behind win over Missouri-Kansas City. He also had two steals, one block shot and an assist. Frey, who entered the week averaging 14.0 points and 6.8 rebounds, shot 45.5 percent from three-point range on the week, well above his season average of 32.1.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Kevin Mays averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds as the Roadrunners went 1-1 on the week ... Fred Sims Jr. of Chicago State averaged 16.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on the week ... Grand Canyon's Ryan Majerle averaged 13.5 points on 52.9 percent shooting, 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.5 steals as the Lopes went 2-0 on the week ... Pascal Siakam of NM State averaged 12.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.7 blocks, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals as the Aggies went 2-1 on the week ... Seattle U's Jack Crook averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds on the week ... Shaquille Hines of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal as the Vaqueros went 1-1 on the week.

CSU Bakersfield leads the WAC in scoring defense (64.1), blocks (5.15), assists (15.70), turnover margin (2.30), assist-turnover ratio (1.28) and offensive rebounds (12.89), while NM State is tops in field goal percentage (46.9), field goal percentage defense (39.1), rebounding (41.4), rebounding defense (31.1), rebounding margin (10.2) and defensive rebounds (29.28). Grand Canyon leads the WAC in scoring (77.5), scoring margin (9.6) and three-point field goal percentage (38.4), while Utah Valley is tops in free throw percentage (73.0), three-point field goal percentage defense (32.2) and three-pointers per game (8.33). Chicago State leads the WAC in steals (7.97).
Individually, NM State's Pascal Siakam leads the WAC in scoring (20.7), rebounding (11.8), blocked shots (2.52), offensive rebounds (3.93), defensive rebounds (7.9) and minutes per game (34.52). Grand Canyon's Grandy Glaze is tops in field goal percentage (59.3), while teammate DeWayne Russell leads the WAC in assists (5.5) and Joshua Braun is tops in free throw percentage (87.2) and three-point field goal percentage (43.5). CSU Bakersfield's Dedrick Basile, Damiyne Durham and Brent Wrapp are tops in steals (1.89), three-pointers per game (2.77) and assist-turnover ratio (2.70), respectively.
In WAC games only, NM State leads the WAC in scoring margin (11.6), field goal percentage (47.1), field goal percentage defense (37.7), rebounding (41.4), rebounding defense (32.4), rebounding margin (9.0), blocks (6.33) and defensive rebounds (29.08), while Utah Valley is tops in scoring (78.7), free throw percentage (75.5), assists (16.0) and three-pointers per game (9.42). CSUB leads the WAC in scoring defense (62.8), three-point field goal percentage defense (30.6) and turnover margin (2.75), while Grand Canyon is tops in three-point field goal percentage (38.8) and assist-turnover ratio (1.42). Individually in WAC games, Siakam leads the WAC in rebounding (12.7), blocks (3.25), offensive rebounds (4.42) and defensive rebounds (8.25), while Braun is tops in scoring (18.8) and tied with Utah Valley's Jaden Jackson for the lead in free throw percentage (86.0). UMKC's Shayok Shayok leads the league in field goal percentage (55.3), while teammate LaVell Boyd is tops in three-pointers per game (2.58). Utah Valley's Marcel Davis is tops in assists (5.92), while Basile is tops in steals (2.17) and Grand Canyon's Ryan Majerle leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (48.6). Russell is tops in assist-turnover ratio (4.07), while UT Rio Grande Valley's Antonio Green leads the WAC in minutes per game (36.2).
GRAND CANYON TIED FOR MOST WINS IN THE NATION
With a pair of wins last week, Grand Canyon improved to 24-4 on the season, tied for the most wins in NCAA Division I play. The Lopes have the fifth-best winning percentage (85.7) in the nation.
NM STATE WINS 20 GAMES FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT SEASON
With a win over Seattle U on Feb. 20, NM State moved its season win total to 20 for the fifth straight season and the seventh time in the nine-year Marvin Menzies era. It was the program's 29th 20-win season.
NM STATE'S MENZIES SEVENTH ON WAC WINS CHART
NM State head coach Marvin Menzies is tied for seventh on the all-time WAC victories chart with 101 wins. He needs five more wins to tie Jim Brandenburg of Wyoming and San Diego State (1978-92) in sixth place with 106. Menzies is also third in WAC winning percentage (73.2) and eighth in overall wins at 195.
NM STATE BOASTS 35-GAME WAC HOME WINNING STREAK
NM State is currently riding a 35-game WAC home winning streak, the second-longest in the country behind the 37 straight Southland wins by Stephen F. Austin. The Aggies' last WAC home loss was a 68-60 loss to Nevada on Jan. 26, 2012. NM State is 7-0 at the Pan American Center in WAC play this season, went 7-0 in 2014-15, 8-0 in 2013-14, 9-0 in 2012-13 and 4-0 to close out the 2011-12 season.
CSU BAKERSFIELD DEFENSE DOMINATES
CSU Bakersfield, which leads the WAC in scoring defense, has held its opponent to 30 or less points in the first half 19 times this season. The ‘Runners have held their opponent to 50 points or less four times this season and 60 points or less nine times.
