WAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Seattle U's Matt Alderson and Missouri-Kansas City's Dimitra Stavrianakou have been named Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 15-21.

Alderson, a sophomore from Bainbridge Island, Wash. (Bainbridge) went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles matches finished over the weekend, clinching the winning point vs. Idaho State on Feb. 20.

Stavrianakou, a senior from Vrilissia, Greece (American College of Greece) went 2-0 in both singles and doubles on the week, helping UMKC win a dual against Washburn before falling in a tight 4-3 match against Air Force… Against WU, she took a straight-set win at No. 1 singles and a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. On Sunday against Air Force, she and partner Melinda Johnson helped UMKC grab the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Mary Meyers and Elisa Nelson at No. 1 doubles. In singles play, she played the tightest match of her career, playing to a tiebreak in all three sets at No. 1 over Mary Meyers, and won both the second and third to win the match.

CHICAGO STATE
The Chicago State men's tennis team captured its first dual-match victory of the 2016 season here Friday evening after defeating Cardinal Stritch by a score of 6-1 at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club. The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Cougars, who moved their record to 1-7 on the year. Chicago State women's tennis continued its season-opening, seven-match homestand today at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club with a close battle against visiting Cardinal Stritch, but the Wolves claimed a 4-3 victory.

GRAND CANYON
The GCU men's tennis team came from behind to defeat the Nevada Wolfpack on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Paseo Racquet Center. After dropping two matches in doubles play, the Lopes rallied to take the next four singles matches and win the contest 4-1. The GCU women's tennis team improved to 4-5 on the season after a near-sweep of Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon. The Lopes defeated the Thunderbirds 6-1 behind strong play in both singles and doubles.

MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY
UMKC renewed an old rivalry on Friday afternoon against Oral Roberts, and it was up to the billing as five singles matches went to a third set, but ORU took the 4-2 victory in the end. UMKC men's tennis jumped out early, and rolled to a 6-1 victory over Division II Washburn on Saturday afternoon at KC Raquet Club. The UMKC women's tennis squad moved to 3-0 at home, taking out Division II Washburn on Friday afternoon, 7-0. UMKC (3-5) jumped out to the 1-0 lead thanks to doubles wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The Lady Blues took the No. 2 match by a 6-4 margin. UMKC women's tennis took a lead going into singles action, but Air Force took the deciding matches in a 4-3 decision on Sunday at the KC Raquet Club.

NM STATE
The New Mexico State men's tennis team swept through Western New Mexico on Friday at the NMSU Tennis Center, 7-0, in its dual home-opener. The Aggies (2-6) got things rolling at home thanks to their No. 3 doubles team of Liam Goldberg and Mauri Benitez, who took down their counterparts from WNMU, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point. The New Mexico State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match on Saturday at the NMSU Tennis Center to visiting Abilene Christian, 5-2.

SEATTLE U
The Redhawks won two of three this weekend in Pocatello …. Matt Alderson went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles matches finished, clinching the winning point vs. Idaho State on Feb. 20 … Tanner Berkabile also went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles matches finished while Connor Leahy went 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.

UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
The Vaqueros split their doubleheader this past weekend as the fell 2-4 to Incarnate Word and won 5-0 against Our Lady of the Lake. The Vaqueros will have another pair of matches this week as they host St. Mary's University on February 26 at the Brownsville Tennis Center and then they return to the Orville Cox Tennis Center on February 28 to host St. Edwards. The women have been off since January 31 and will return to the court on February 26 when they host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. They will then turn around and host the University of Texas San Antonio on Sunday February 28 for their second match of the weekend.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2015 WAC Tennis Championship travels to Brownsville, Texas from April 29th to May 1st. This year's championships will be hosted by Texas Rio Grand Valley. The New Mexico State men will look to repeat a WAC title. The Grand Canyon women won the regular season while New Mexico State won the tournament last season.
