DENVER, Colo. - University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Director of Athletics Chris King has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Nominating Committee. The appointment runs through Aug. 31, 2018.
King is one of just two athletic directors on the 12-person committee and one of just four I-AAA representatives.
“Chris is an individual with great energy, ability and vision,†WAC Commissioner Jeff Hurd said. “Since the day UTRGV became a league member, he has been fully engaged in conference and NCAA issues. His selection is very well-deserved, and there could not be a better representative for the WAC on the Division I Nominating Committee.â€
The Nominating Committee facilitates the process to appoint representatives to all Division I Council Committees (non-Council positions), all Division I committees (e.g., sport committees), and Division I vacancies on Association-wide committees. The NCAA Council is the oversight body with the responsibility to review and ratify the Nominating Committee's appointments.
This is the second time King has represented the WAC on an NCAA committee, as he previously served as the WAC representative on the Division I Legislative Council.
“It is an honor to represent UTRGV, the WAC, and the NCAA on issues of importance as they relate to the future of Division I athletics,†King said. “This is a great opportunity for UTRGV to take a leadership role within the NCAA committee structure.â€
Now in his seventh year as the Director of Athletics at UTRGV, King has led the department through an unprecedented period of growth while laying a solid foundation for continued improvement. Among the most significant of King's accomplishments has been securing membership in the WAC three years ago.
