DENVER - CSU Bakersfield's Batabe Zempare has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.
Zempare, a senior from Accra, Ghana (Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chapparal HS), became the seventh active Division I player with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds as the 6-2 forward scored 23 points and brought down 13 rebounds to lead the Roadrunners to a road win at Grand Canyon. She hit a pair of free throws with 6:39 remaining in the game to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Here 13 rebounds brought her career total to 1,086.
Other nominees included: Chicago State's Kaylee Allen scored a game-high 23 points with nine rebounds in a loss at UTRGV … Missouri-Kansas City's Taylor Leathers recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Roos nearly knocked off regular season champion NM State … NM State's Moriah Mack scored 21 points as the Aggies managed to hold off Missouri-Kansas City in overtime, 78-74, scoring six points in the extra period … UT Rio Grande Valley's Shawnte' Goff had her eighth 20-plus point game of the season, scoring 21 in a home win over Chicago State … Utah Valley's Mariah Seals made 9-of-14 attempts from the field for 24 points as the Wolverines blew out Seattle U, 79-48.
