LAS VEGAS - Third-seeded Seattle U defeated No. 6 UT Rio Grande Valley, 75-52, in the final quarterfinal game of the WAC Tournament on Thursday. The Redhawks advance to play CSU Bakersfield in the semifinal round Friday.
After a tight first half, the Redhawks pulled away in the second period. Seattle U was aided by 15-of-19 shooting on free throws in the second period and scored 22 points off 16 UTRGV turnovers to earn the win.
Seattle U was led by a game-high 23 points from Brendan Westendorf. Jadon Cohee came off the bench to add 19 points while William Powell narrowly missed the double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
UT Rio Grande Valley was led by 14 points and nine rebounds from Dan Kimasa.
