WAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Seattle U's Connor Leahy and Missouri-Kansas City's Marina Albert have been named Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for March 7-13.
Leahy, a junior from Portland, Ore. (Jesuit) was the only Redhawk to win both singles matches and both doubles matches in a pair of close victories over the weekend. Leahy has also won 8 of his last 9 singles matches and is on a 9-match doubles winning streak with partner John Stormans. He gave Seattle U a 1-0 lead, winning the first singles match to finish in an eventual 4-3 victory vs. Swarthmore in which singles were played first on Mar. 10. Leahy also gave the Redhawks their first lead, 2-1, vs. Pacific (Ore.) en route to their comeback and a 4-3 win on Mar. 12.
Albert, a sophomore from Thebes, Egypt (Thebes American College) went 2-0 in doubles and 1-1 in singles on the week, against Northwest Missouri State and No. 33 ranked Arkansas. Against the Division II Bearcats, she and partner Linda Ammar Mouhoub picked up a 6-2 doubles win, before going into singles play and taking a straight set victory over Margaux Jacquet at the No. 4 position. Against Arkansas, her doubles team at No. 3 picked up the lone win of the dual for the Roos with a 6-3 decision. She followed in singles play with a loss at No. 3. On the season, she leads the Roos with a 7-5 dual doubles record.
Other men's nominees: NM State's Mauri Benitez reeled off back-to-back wins in singles play, and helped NM State win an ever so crucial doubles point to beat San Francisco, 4-3. UT Rio Grande Valley's Koby Jansen went 1-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles over the weekend. Jansen split sets with Rice's Emanuel Llamas before the match went unfinished. He turned around and defeated Nicholls State's Max Sinn 6-3, 6-0 on court 3. It was Jansen's seventh single win of the season as he has wins at the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots. In doubles, Jansen teamed with Juan Cruz Soria over the weekend. They were up 5-4 against Jamie Malik and Zach Yablon on court one before the match went unfinished. They picked up their team leading fifth doubles win with a 6-3 victory over Oleksander Podgursky and Kieran Cronin.
Other women's nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Reegan Greenwood recorded her 46th career singles victory over the weekend after defeating Prairie View A&M's Neharika Rama 6-4, 6-4 on court one. She remains in seventh place on the program's all-time singles wins list and is one win behind Silke Buksik (2005-08) for sixth place. In doubles, Greenwood teamed with Tara Donaho to record a 6-3 win over Neharika Rama and Stacy Lackey for their first win of the season as a team.
CHICAGO STATE
The Chicago State men's tennis team returned to action on Sunday here with a close 4-3 defeat to host Detroit at the Franklin Athletic Club. The Chicago State women's tennis team made its return to the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center in Homewood, Ill., on Thursday afternoon, but dropped a 5-2 decision to Missouri State.
GRAND CANYON
The Grand Canyon men's tennis team began the first day of the second annual Mountain Pacific Invitational, co-hosted by New Mexico and Pacific. The Lopes began the invitational with a matchup against Santa Clara and New Mexico and after dropping the doubles point, the Lopes rallied to take down the Broncos 4-3 for its fourth straight win. GCU closed out the day with a 4-0 loss to No. 63 New Mexico. GCU is now 8-5 this season. To close out the Mountain Pacific Invitational, the Grand Canyon women's tennis team faced Pacific in a battle for third place. GCU won three singles matches but the Lopes fell to the Tigers 4-3. GCU is now 8-6 this season. To begin a two-match weekend in Hawaii, the Grand Canyon women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to the University of Hawaii on Saturday. The Grand Canyon women's tennis team fell victim to another tough 4-3 loss as they wrapped up play in Hawai'i facing Pacific. The Lopes will return home to Phoenix with a 5-7 record before heading into conference play.
MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY
UMKC men's tennis rolled in doubles play, and took that momentum to a 5-2 victory on Wednesday at the Plaza Tennis Center against Northwest Missouri State. The UMKC women's tennis squad dropped the doubles point, but came roaring back in singles play, taking five of the six in a 5-2 victory over Northwest Missouri State Wednesday afternoon. UMKC women's tennis took a doubles match against No. 33 Arkansas, but in the end the Razorbacks were too much, taking a 5-0 decision.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U won a pair of closely contested 4-3 victories over the weekend in which the win was clinched with the final match … Connor Leahy was the only Redhawk to win both singles matches and both doubles matches in a pair of close victories over the weekend … Leahy has also won 8 of his last 9 singles matches and is on a 9-match doubles winning streak with partner John Stormans … Matt Alderson clinched the match vs. Pacific with a win at No. 5 singles on Mar. 12 …Michael Schoettler increased his singles winning streak to six matches
NM STATE
The New Mexico State men's tennis team took a split in its first day of action at the Mountain Pacific Invitational hosted by New Mexico. The NM State men's tennis team concluded the Mountain Pacific Invitational 2-1 after defeating San Francisco in a thrilling 4-3 contest at Linda Estes.
UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
The Vaqueros are 1-1 so far on their spring break trip after falling 0-4 to the No. 33 Rice Owls on Saturday and then defeating Nicholls State 4-2 on Monday. Juan Cruz Soria leads the team with a 10-3 singles record while playing all his matches at the No. 1 spot. The Vaqueros will continue their spring break trip as they face New Orleans on Tuesday and Lipscomb on Thursday. The Vaqueros' lone match of the weekend came against the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Saturday as they picked up a 6-1 victory. The win over the Panthers was the Vaqueros' first win on the road. Freshman Tara Donaho leads the team with a 5-2 record in singles. The Vaqueros will open up conference play on Friday when they face New Mexico State in Phoenix before facing Chicago State on Saturday and Missouri-Kansas City on Sunday.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2016 WAC Tennis Championship travels to Brownsville, Texas from April 29th to May 1st. This year's championships will be hosted by Texas Rio Grand Valley. The New Mexico State men will look to repeat a WAC title. The Grand Canyon women won the regular season while New Mexico State won the tournament last season.

2016 USTA/ITA REGIONALS
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships will feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 USTA/ITA Regional Championships around the country.
