DENVER - The 2015-16 All-WAC teams have been named, following a vote of the WAC's eight head coaches. UT Rio Grande Valley's
Shawnte' Goff headlines the awards, earning WAC Player of the Year honors, CSU Bakersfield's
Addi Walters was named WAC Freshman of the Year and NM State's
Mark Trakh repeated as WAC Coach of the Year.
A 5-8 junior guard from Copperas Cove, Texas, Goff led the WAC in scoring with 15.4 ppg, including 16.1 ppg in conference play. She scored 20-plus points in nine games this season as the Vaqueros took second in the final standings. In addition to winning the scoring title, she ranked fifth in free throw percentage (.794) during WAC play and first in minutes played, averaging 35.9 minutes per game.
Walters was named WAC Freshman of the Year after leading the WAC in three pointers during conference play at 3.0 per game, ranking second in three-point percentage at .483. Her 10.7 ppg in conference play ranked 17th overall. Her 33 points against Seattle U on Jan. 16 was a high for conference play and tied for the top mark this season among all games played.
Trakh earned WAC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season after leading the Aggies to the WAC regular season title with a 13-1 record and a 24-4 record overall. In WAC play, NM State led the league in scoring offense (68.5), scoring margin (+8.7), assists (13.6), steals (8.9), turnover margin (+5.00) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0).
Four schools are represented on the first team. Joining Goff are NM State's
Sasha Weber and
Moriah Mack, CSU Bakersfield's
Batabe Zempare and Utah Valley's
Sam Loggins.
The All-WAC second teams are Grand Canyon's
Courtney Hayes and
Jessica Gajewski, Chicago State's
Layne Murphy, Utah Valley's
Mariah Seals and Seattle U's
Taelor Ross.
Five different schools were represented on the All-Defensive team as Hayes, Mack, Goff, Zempare and Seals were selected as the top defenders in the WAC.
Walters headlines the All-Newcomer Team and was joined by Grand Canyon's
Dana Jones, Chicago State's
Kaylee Allen, UT Rio Grande Valley's
Anushka Maldonado and NM State's
Brooke Salas.
