LAS VEGAS - No. 4 Utah Valley defeated fifth-seeded Missouri-Kansas City in the first game of the WAC Tournament Wednesday. With the win, the Wolverines move on to the semifinals to face top-seeded NM State on Friday.
After a UMKC lead less than three minutes into the game, Utah Valley led for the remainder, building its lead to as many as 20. The Roos cut it to seven on a Kelsey Barrett three-pointer with nine seconds remaining, but that was as close as they would get.
The Wolverines shot 50 percent from the field on the game, compared to the 39 percent of the Roos. Utah Valley also out-rebounded UMKC 33-27.
Utah Valley's Sam Loggins led all players with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Mariah Seals added 12 points and Deijah Blanks finished with 11.
UMKC's Kiana Law posted her eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Taylor Leathers also added 12 points and Barrett finished with 10.
