DENVER -Utah Valley's Blair Bursey and Seattle U's Alexus Song have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for March 2 through March 8.
Bursey, a sophomore from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada (Gander Collegiate), carded a 2-under 69 in the final round to earn medalist honors at the Bandon Dunes Championship with a 5-under 208. He finished ahead of 68 other golfers to claim his first-ever collegiate tournament victory, finishing two strokes ahead of Clemson's Austin Langdale. He was one of just three golfers to finish the tournament under par.
Song, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Thomas Jefferson HS), returned to her ways of high finishes, earning a pair of top-15 finishes in four days. At the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz., she finished 9-over to tie for 13th among 54 golfers as the Redhawks finished third as a team. Song and her teammates then headed to California for the Fresno State Classic and Song fired a par of 2-over 74s to tie for 12th place among 82 golfers.
Other men's nominees: Seattle U's Jamie Hall finished in a tie for 10th place at the Bandon Dunes Championship, firing a 4-over 217.
