DENVER -Utah Valley's Blair Bursey and Seattle U's Alexus Song have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for April 6 through April 12.
Bursey, a sophomore from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada (Gander Collegiate), carded a 3-under-par 69 in the final round of the ORU Shootout to finish fourth among 78 golfers with an even-par 216. It was his fifth top-10 finish and third top-5 finish of the season as he registered four birdies and 13 pars during his final round on Tuesday. As a team, the Wolverines took third among 11 teams in their final tournament of the regular season.
Song, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Thomas Jefferson HS), took second at the Bobcat Spring Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz. to lead the Redhawks to their first tournament victory of the season. Posting a pair of rounds under par, she finished one stroke ahead of teammate Dorsey Addicks and just one stroke behind medalist Kala Keitz of Northern Colorado. After shooting a 2-under-par 70 in the first round and a 7-over-par 79 in the second round, Song responded with a 1-under-par 71 to help Seattle U clinch the team title by one stroke over Wyoming.
