BLAINE, Wash. - What looked to be a competitive championship event coming into the weekend proved to be correct on the first day of the 2016 WAC Women's Golf Championship on Friday at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine, Wash.

Utah Valley took the early lead in the team standings behind a 1-under-par 71 from Ana Margarita Raga and an even-par 72 from Carly Dehlin. The Wolverines shot 9-over-par 297 as a team to take a four-stroke lead over Seattle U into Saturday's second round.

Dorsey Addicks paced the Redhawks with a 1-over-par 73 to tie with Missouri-Kansas City's Cynthia Diaz for third place on the individual leaderboard.

Defending champion NM State is third with a 17-over-par 305. UMKC is fourth at 25-over-par 313, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley and Chicago State, tied for fifth with a 27-over-par 315. CSU Bakersfield will head into the second round in seventh place with a 32-over-par 320.

The tournament continues on Saturday morning with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m. PT.
