DENVER - After winning a third straight Western Athletic Conference women's golf title, NM State learned its postseason fate on Monday afternoon. The Aggies are headed to Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club in Shoal Creek, Ala. for one of four NCAA Regionals on May 5-7.
The Aggies won the 2016 WAC title on Sunday afternoon at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine, Wash., shooting a 20-over-par 884 to finish 16 strokes ahead of second-place Seattle U. NM State was just 3-over-par over the final 36 holes. Leading the Aggies into Alabama will be 2016 WAC Individual Champion Kennedie Montoya and 2015-16 WAC Player of the Year Viviana Macias.
Joining NM State at Shoal Creek will be top-seeded Alabama, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, California, Iowa State, Florida State, Tennessee, Missouri, Purdue, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Oakland and Alabamas State. The Aggies are seeded 15th for the 54 hole event.
The low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship finals at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. on May 20-25.
