BROWNSVILLE, Texas - No. 2 UT Rio Grande Valley defeated No. 3 Missouri-Kansas City in the first semifinal match of the WAC Tennis Tournament Saturday at the Brownsville Tennis Center. With the win, the Vaqueros advance to the championship match on Sunday, where they will face NM State.
In doubles, UTRGV's Doris Aleksovska and Dominique Ibarra beat UMKC's Marina Albert and Linda Ammar Mouhoub, 6-1 on court three. Then Dominique Esparza and Natacha Minc of UTRGV picked up the doubles point for the Vaqueros on court two with a 6-4 win over Raquel Argenal and Allie Schulte, 6-4.
In singles, UTRGV's Reegan Greenwood defeated Dimitra Stavrianakou, 6-3, 7-5 on court one. On court two, UMKC's Melinda Johnson beat Esparza, 7-5, 6-2, for the 'Roos only point of the match.
Aleksovska picked up a point for the Vaqueros after beating Linda Ammar Mouhoub, 6-3, 6-1 on court five. On court six, Tara Donaho of UTRGV clinched the win with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory over Schulte.
