BROWNSVILLE, Texas - No. 2 NM State defeated No. 3 UT Rio Grande Valley in the first semifinal match of the WAC Tennis Tournament Saturday at the Brownsville Tennis Center. With the win, the Aggies advance to the championship match on Sunday, where they will face Missouri-Kansas City.
NM State picked up the first win in doubles by default and then Koby Jansen and Yehonatan Kaufman of UTRGV beat Liam Goldberg and Strahinja Trecakov of NM State, 6-1 on court one. The Aggies took the doubles point with a win on court two as Christofer Goncalves and Stijn de Haan beat Elliot Johnstone and Andres Hernandez, 6-3.
In singles, the Aggies took the first point by default. NM State picked up wins on court two and five to put the match away. On court two, Christofer Goncalves beat Elliot Johnstone, 6-1, 6-2 and on court five, Mauri Benitez defeated Andres Hernandez, 6-0, 6-1.
