LAWRENCE, Kan. - The 2016 Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships began today at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan., with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon events. For the men, Utah Valley junior Rusty Jones holds the lead in the decathlon, winning four of five events to collect 3,611 points. Seattle U junior Mandie Maddux leads the women's heptathlon with 2,879 points, picking up wins in three of four events.
The action restarts tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. (CT) with the men's decathlon events. Both the decathlon and heptathlon will conclude in the afternoon. The first running finals of the week will take place tomorrow evening, as the women's 10,000-meter run will begin at 8 p.m. (CT), followed by the men's 10,000 meters at 8:45 p.m. (CT).
