SEATTLE - Third-seeded CSU Bakersfield held off No. 2 Missouri-Kansas City in the second game of the WAC Tournament Thursday. The 'Roos face Seattle U in an elimination game later today.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the second inning, UMKC's Alexandra Friloux drove in Rachel Pate with an RBI single.
In the third, UMKC starter Amber Grove loaded the bases, then gave up a walk to bring in the first CSUB run of the day. UMKC coach Meredith Smith Neal then brought in Katie Kelley to relieve Grove, but Kelley gave up two RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk to give the Runners a 4-1 lead
Down three in the bottom of the seventh, Kelley smashed her ninth homer of the season to bring the ‘Roos within one. CSUB then brought in Sydney Raeber, who got two strikeouts and a pop up to clinch the Roadrunner win.
CSUB starter Amber Mills earned the win to improve to 7-14 on the season. She allowed three runs on right hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Raeber earned her fourth save of the season.
Grove fell to 14-10 with the loss.
