LAWRENCE, Kan. - After a weather-delayed third day of action at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Missouri-Kansas City men and the Grand Canyon women are in the lead with five events scored for the men and seven for the women.

In a blustery start to the day in the women's hammer throw, UTRGV senior Cristina Santiago Bravo defended her 2015 WAC Outdoor title, winning the event with a mark of 56.87 meters.

As action continued after a nearly three-and-a-half hour lightning delay, host Missouri-Kansas City's women netted two first-place finishes, as junior Sarah Fogarty won the steeplechase in 10:50.58, and teammate Traci Mills won the long jump with a mark of 5.94m. In other women's event finals, Grand Canyon junior Tarasue Barnett won the discus throw with a mark of 58.15m. In the high jump, Utah Valley freshman Briana Dusenberry edged out UT Rio Grande Valley junior Kerissa Wiley in number of attempts after they both cleared a height of 1.62m. The women's pole vault event was rescheduled to Saturday morning, due to high winds.

For the men, host UMKC's men picked up two gold medals to help propel them into first place, as junior Bryce Miller won the steeplechase for the second consecutive year, and fellow teammate Alex Yoxall took first in the javelin with a throw of 61.98m. In the other scored men's final, Grand Canyon junior Marcus Flannigan defended his title in the long jump, claiming first place with a leap of 7.45m. The men's shot put was rescheduled to Saturday morning, due to too much water in the sector after the severe weather delay.

Tomorrow's field event finals begin at 10 a.m. (CT) with the rescheduled events, the men's shot put and women's high jump. Track events start at 5 p.m. with the final of the women's 400-meter relay.
