DENVER - Among the top players in the Western Athletic Conference this season, NM State's
Joseph Koerper and Utah Valley's
Kyle Valgardson are also among the stop students as both players have been honored as Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Koerper, a senior genetics and biotechnology major holding a 3.83 grade-point average, is sixth in the WAC this season in doubles per game (0.3) as well as sixth in fielding chances (276), seventh in putouts (261) and tied for seventh in fielding double plays (25).
Valgardson, a senior biochemistry major with a 3.70 grade-point average, is third in the WAC in saves with six and is tied for second in games finished at 13. He is also 15th in earned run average with a 2.17 ERA and holds a 3-1 record for the Wolverines.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
