DENVER - CSU Bakersfield's Sabrina Delgado and Seattle U's Stephanie Spiekerman have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Aug. 15-21.

Delgado, a sophomore from Hacienda Heights, Calif. (Los Altos HS), led CSUB to its victory over Fresno State, the first for the ‘Runners against their Central Valley rival since 2008. Delgado opened the scoring against the Bulldogs, converting home a cross in the 31st minute. With the score at 3-2 late in the second half, Delgado iced the game for CSUB with a powerful finish on a counterattack, sealing the 4-2 victory. She reset her single-game bests for goals (2) and points (4) in the match. She also applied ample pressure to the Sacramento State defense in CSUB's opener, taking six shots, two on target, with another two blocked on the way to the goal. This is the second WAC Player of the Week honor for Delgado in her career.

Spiekerman, a junior from Seattle, Wash. (Bishop Blanchet HS), played the entire 90-minute game against Texas in the centerback position and was the key defender in the Redhawks' 1-0 shutout victory over the Longhorns. Spiekerman, a Preseason All-WAC selection, anchored a backline that suppressed the Longhorns' attack, holding UT to just one shot on goal despite 17 attempted shots in the match.

Other offensive nominees included: Chicago State freshman forward Madison Berg had two assists in two games to begin her career … Seattle U senior forward Brie Hooks scored the lone goal of the match in SU's victory at Texas … UTRGV sophomore forward Diandra Aliaga had two goals and assist on the weekend as the Vaqueros picked up a rivalry win and an overtime loss … Utah Valley junior forward Alexis Peterson scored a goal in each match as UVU defeated Northern Arizona and fell to No. 20 Arizona.
