DENVER - UMKC senior setter Kaylyn Brandt has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 5-11. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Sumner, Iowa, native earned Kangaroo Klassic MVP honors after posting double-doubles in each of the three matches. Brandt averaged 11.60 assists, 3.70 digs, 0.80 kills and 0.80 blocks per set on the week. In a sweep of Cornell, she tallied 39 assists and 11 digs. In a 3-1 loss to Northern Iowa, Brandt notched 38 assists and 10 digs to go along with four blocks and three kills. In the weekend finale, she recorded 39 assists and a season-high 16 digs to lift UMKC over Bradley, adding three blocks and three kills. Brandt currently leads the WAC in assists per set (11.27) and UMKC tops the league as a team (13.18).
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso averaged 3.47 kills and 3.27 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the North Harbour Challenge ... Dzeni Hadzisehovic of Chicago State was named to the all-tournament team at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational after averaging 3.82 kills on .323 hitting ... NM State's Jordan Abalos averaged 3.17 kills and 3.17 digs and posted a pair of double-doubles last week ... Matea Mamic of Seattle U averaged 3.75 kills and 1.94 digs and was named to the all-tournament team at the Holiday Inn Orlando East UCF Area Classic ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Ragni Steen Knudsen posted three double-doubles and averaged 4.08 kills and 3.85 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the Texas Tech Tournament ... Lexi Thompson of Utah Valley averaged 3.80 kills, 0.70 digs and 0.60 blocks per set over three matches last week.
