UMKC'S BRANDT NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UMKC senior setter Kaylyn Brandt has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 5-11. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

The Sumner, Iowa, native earned Kangaroo Klassic MVP honors after posting double-doubles in each of the three matches. Brandt averaged 11.60 assists, 3.70 digs, 0.80 kills and 0.80 blocks per set on the week. In a sweep of Cornell, she tallied 39 assists and 11 digs. In a 3-1 loss to Northern Iowa, Brandt notched 38 assists and 10 digs to go along with four blocks and three kills. In the weekend finale, she recorded 39 assists and a season-high 16 digs to lift UMKC over Bradley, adding three blocks and three kills. Brandt currently leads the WAC in assists per set (11.27) and UMKC tops the league as a team (13.18).

Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso averaged 3.47 kills and 3.27 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the North Harbour Challenge ... Dzeni Hadzisehovic of Chicago State was named to the all-tournament team at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational after averaging 3.82 kills on .323 hitting ... NM State's Jordan Abalos averaged 3.17 kills and 3.17 digs and posted a pair of double-doubles last week ... Matea Mamic of Seattle U averaged 3.75 kills and 1.94 digs and was named to the all-tournament team at the Holiday Inn Orlando East UCF Area Classic ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Ragni Steen Knudsen posted three double-doubles and averaged 4.08 kills and 3.85 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the Texas Tech Tournament ... Lexi Thompson of Utah Valley averaged 3.80 kills, 0.70 digs and 0.60 blocks per set over three matches last week.

WAC HAS 12 PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
The WAC had 12 of its players named to all-tournament teams last weekend, led by UMKC with three honorees in Kaylyn Brandt (MVP), Alicia Harrington and Madison Mosier at the Kangaroo Klassic. Chicago State's Dzeni Hadzisehovic and Thais Vieira were named to the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational all-tournament team, while Barbara Silva and Ragni Steen Knudsen of UT Rio Grande Valley earned honors at the Texas Tech Tournament. Other honorees were CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso, who earned all-tournament honors at the North Harbour Challenge, Grand Canyon's Katrice Pond, who was named to the all-tournament team at the Cal Classic, Seattle U's Matea Mamic, who earned honors at the Holiday Inn UCF Classic and Lexi Thompson of Utah Valley, who was named to the all-tournament team at the Hawaii Outrigger Resorts Challenge.

SEATTLE U'S MAMIC SURPASSES 1,000 CAREER POINTS
With 15.5 points at UCF on Sept. 11, Seattle U senior outside hitter Matea Mamic surpassed 1,000 career points. Mamic now has 1,011 career points and is the only active player in the WAC with more than 1,000 on her career.

CHICAGO STATE SNAPS 21-MATCH LOSING SKID
When the Cougars defeated Savannah State on Sept. 9, they snapped a 21-match losing skid that dated back to Sept. 19, 2015, when the team defeated Western Illinois in non-conference action. In its fourth season in the league, Chicago State has yet to win a Western Athletic Conference match, spanning 44 matches.

NM STATE'S JORDAN PICKS UP 400TH CAREER VICTORY
NM State head coach Mike Jordan picked up his 400th career victory on Sept. 2 with a sweep of Valparaiso at the Trojan Invitational. In his 19th year at the helm, Jordan boasts a 403-181 (.690) record. He is the winningest coach in program history.

WAC STAT LEADERS
UMKC currently leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.289), assists (13.18) and kills (14.00), while UT Rio Grande Valley is tops in opponent hitting percentage (.166) and digs (18.19). Utah Valley leads the league in blocks (2.81), while Seattle U is tops in service aces (1.45).

Individually, Seattle U's Matea Mamic leads the WAC in kills (4.03) and points (4.38). UMKC's Emma Hagedorn is tops in hitting percentage (.447) and teammate Kaylyn Brandt leads the league in assists (11.27). Seattle U's Kaja Marinkovic leads the WAC in service aces (0.36), while Utah Valley's Madison Dennison is tops in blocks (1.40) and UT Rio Grande Valley's Fatoumata Dacosta leads the league in digs (4.92).
