JUST KEEP RUNNING

After six of eight schools were in action last weekend, just Chicago State and UMKC will take to the course this week. The Cougars will run at the College of DuPage Invitational in Warrenville, Ill. while the ‘Roos head north to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by University of Minnesota.

REGIONALLY RANKED
The regional rankings, as anounced by the USTFCCA, remained relatively consistent this week.

The UMKC men are ranked 14th in the Midwest region. In the Mountain region, Utah Valley remains at 11th while NM State is 15th.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2016 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Seattle. This year's championships will be hosted by Seattle University and will take place at Jefferson Park Golf Course. The Utah Valley men will be running for a fourth-straight WAC title while the UVU women will look to repeat as conference champions against 2014 champion and host Seattle U.

UVU's LAMBERT, BERRY NAMED RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
Utah Valley's Tyson Lambert and Savannah Berry have been named Western Athletic Conference Male and Female Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 13 - Sep. 19.

Lambert, a junior from Grantsville, Utah (Stansbury HS), set a new UVU record in the 8,000-meter at the UV Riverside Invitational, placing second out of 67 with a time of 23:56.36. His first top-five and second top-10 finish of the young season helped pace the Wolverines to a second place finish as a team.

Berry, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Highland HS), also set a new UVU record in the 6000-meter, breaking her previous personal best by 40 seconds. She finished the course in 20:46.29 to finish 11th out of 159 runners as the Wolverines finished fourth out of 11 teams.

Other male nominees: Chicago State's Dijon Smith finished 29th overall at the Bradley Invitational with a time of 28:26.7 … NM State's David Colmenero placed fourth at the Kachina Classic Open as the Aggies took second in their home meet … Seattle U's Chay Weaver helped the Redhawks to a third-place finish at the Sundodger Invitational, running the 8k course in 25:07.40 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Alberto Herrera finished seventh at the Texas Invitational, running the 5k course in 16:25.01.

Other female nominees: NM State's Cristina Amberg covered the 5k course in 18:19.98 at the Kachina Classic Open … Seattle U's Lila Rice was the first Redhawk runner across the line at the Sundodger Invitational, placing 21st out of 56 runners … UT Rio Grande Valley's Jennifer Zapata paced the Vaqueros to a second-place finish at the Texas Invitational, finishing the 3000m course in 11:11.22.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2016 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country on Friday, Nov. 11. WAC teams will be represented in four locations. The West Region will be held in Sacramento, Calif. (Host: Sacramento State). The Mountain Region will be held in Logan, Utah (Host: Utah State), the South Central Regional (Host: Arkansas) will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Midwest Region (Host: Iowa) will take place in Iowa City, Iowa.
