DENVER - UT Rio Grande Valley junior right side hitter Bojana Mitrovic has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 19-25. This is her first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and the second of her career.
The Novi Sad, Serbia, native led the Vaqueros to a pair of WAC victories last week after averaging 5.62 points, 5.12 kills on .306 hitting, 2.88 digs and 1.00 blocks per set. After missing UTRGV's first match of the week with a sore shoulder, Mitrovic posted a double-double of 17 kills and a season-high 16 digs to go with along four blocks in a four-set win over Utah Valley last Thursday. She followed it up with a season-high 24 kills with zero attack errors on 54 attempts for a career-high .444 hitting percentage in a win over Seattle U on Saturday. She also added seven digs and four blocks. At 11-5, UTRGV is off to its best start since the NCAA started sponsoring women's championships in 1981 and is 2-0 in conference play for the first time in program history.
