DENVER - UMKC redshirt senior middle hitter Emma Hagedorn has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Parkville, Mo. native led UMKC to a 3-1 record last week, including a 3-0 mark at the Omaha Classic to claim the tournament title. Hagedorn averaged 3.21 kills on .553 hitting to go with 0.93 blocks and 0.50 digs over 14 sets last week. She earned all-tournament honors after putting up impressive numbers the entire tournament, including recording a career-high 21 kills on an astounding .690 hitting in a 3-2 victory over Drake. Hagedorn tallied 39 kills on 60 attempts with just two errors to hit .617 through the three Omaha Classic matches. She currently leads the WAC in hitting percentage by more than .150.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso averaged 3.56 kills and 2.67 digs per set ... Natalie Tardy of Grand Canyon was named MVP of the GCU Tournament after averaging 4.00 kills, 1.64 digs, 0.45 blocks and 0.36 service aces per set over the three matches ... NM State's Sasha-Lee Thomas averaged 3.38 kills on .400 hitting last week ... Matea Mamic of Seattle U averaged 4.25 kills, 2.00 digs and 0.58 blocks per set over three matches ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Ragni Steen Knudsen posted three double-doubles and averaged 3.92 kills on .300 hitting and 3.33 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the Tulane Tournament ... Kiahna Vernon of Utah Valley was named MVP of the Wolverine Invitational after averaging 3.13 kills and 1.40 digs per set and leading Utah Valley to the title.
