UMKC'S HAGEDORN NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UMKC redshirt senior middle hitter Emma Hagedorn has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Parkville, Mo. native led UMKC to a 3-1 record last week, including a 3-0 mark at the Omaha Classic to claim the tournament title. Hagedorn averaged 3.21 kills on .553 hitting to go with 0.93 blocks and 0.50 digs over 14 sets last week. She earned all-tournament honors after putting up impressive numbers the entire tournament, including recording a career-high 21 kills on an astounding .690 hitting in a 3-2 victory over Drake. Hagedorn tallied 39 kills on 60 attempts with just two errors to hit .617 through the three Omaha Classic matches. She currently leads the WAC in hitting percentage by more than .150.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Carol Grasso averaged 3.56 kills and 2.67 digs per set ... Natalie Tardy of Grand Canyon was named MVP of the GCU Tournament after averaging 4.00 kills, 1.64 digs, 0.45 blocks and 0.36 service aces per set over the three matches ... NM State's Sasha-Lee Thomas averaged 3.38 kills on .400 hitting last week ... Matea Mamic of Seattle U averaged 4.25 kills, 2.00 digs and 0.58 blocks per set over three matches ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Ragni Steen Knudsen posted three double-doubles and averaged 3.92 kills on .300 hitting and 3.33 digs per set en route to all-tournament team honors at the Tulane Tournament ... Kiahna Vernon of Utah Valley was named MVP of the Wolverine Invitational after averaging 3.13 kills and 1.40 digs per set and leading Utah Valley to the title..
WAC HAS 11 PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
The WAC had 11 of its players named to all-tournament teams last weekend, led by Grand Canyon with three honorees in Natalie Tardy (MVP), Emma Ahern (Top Libero) and Heidi Carpenter. Utah Valley also had three honorees at the Wolverine Invitational in MVP Kiahna Vernon and teammates Nakisha Willden and Sierra Starley. UT Rio Grande Valley's Fatoumata Dacosta was named the Defensive MVP of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament, while teammates Ragni Steen Knudsen and Bojana Mitrovic were named to the all-tournament team. Rounding out the WAC honorees were CSU Bakersfield's Sydney Haynes, who earned all-tournament honors at the Thunderdome Classic, and UMKC's Emma Hagedorn, who was named to the all-tournament team at the Kansas Invitational.
UMKC'S HAGEDORN LEADS NATION IN HITTING PERCENTAGE
After committing just three attack errors in 76 attempts last week, UMKC senior middle hitter Emma Hagedorn currently leads the nation with a .529 hitting percentage. On Sept. 3, she hit .690 with a career-high 21 kills in a five-set win over Drake.
NM STATE'S JORDAN PICKS UP 400TH CAREER VICTORY
NM State head coach Mike Jordan picked up his 400th career victory last Friday with a sweep of Valparaiso at the Trojan Invitational. In his 19th year at the helm, Jordan boasts a 402-179 (.692) record. He is the winningest coach in program history.
WAC STAT LEADERS
NM State currently leads the WAC in opponent hitting percentage (.133), kills (14.29) and service aces (1.54), while UMKC is tops in hitting percentage (.293) and assists (13.13). Utah Valley leads the league in blocks (2.98) and UT Rio Grande Valley is tops is and digs (17.96).
Individually, Seattle U's Matea Mamic leads the WAC in kills (4.24) and points (4.55). UMKC's Emma Hagedorn is tops in hitting percentage (.529) and teammates Kaylyn Brandt and Brianna Starr lead the league in assists (11.13) and digs (4.91), respectively. NM State's Jordan Abalos leads the WAC in service aces (0.55), while Utah Valley's Madison Dennison is tops in blocks (1.46).
