DENVER -Northern Arizona's Urte Kazakeviciute and CSU Bakersfield's Carlee Burks have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 2-8.
Kazakeviciute, a senior from Kaunas, Lithuania, placed first in two individual events against New Mexico State and PAC-12 teams Arizona and Oregon State. She won the 200 breast (2:16.86) by almost 5 whole seconds and also placed first in the 100 breast (1:03.66).
Burks, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., placed first in both events against UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount. She won the 3 meter (328.13) by 61 points and the 1 meter (303.33) by 33 points.
Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Paola Hernandez placed first in three individual events against UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount…Grand Canyon's Jovanna Koens won both of her individual events against UNLV and California Baptist… Seattle U's Madi Lydig won three individual events against Whitworth College.
Other diver nominees: Grand Canyon's Menna El Midany placed second in the 3 meter and seventh in the 1 meter against UNLV and California Baptist… Northern Arizona's Tanya Kurach placed first in the 1 meter and fourth in the 3 meter against Arizona.
