DENVER -Grand Canyon's Mark Nikolaev and Wyoming's Scotia Muller have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 2-8.
Nikolaev, a sophomore from Seltso, Russia, placed first in all three of his individual events against UNLV and California Baptist. He won the 200 IM (1:52.78) and the 200 back (1:50.11). His first place finish in the 100 back (48.28) was the highest ranked swim in the meet.
Mullin, a freshman from Glasglow, Scotland, placed first in the 3 meter against Colorado Mines with a score of 313.73.
Other swimmer nominees: Wyoming's Gabe Rooker won the 50 free (20.73) and the 100 breast (54.51) and broke a pool record against Colorado Mines… Seattle U's Jack Baldoni placed first in the 200 fly (1:53.23), 50 free (21.59), and the 100 fly (49.45) against Whitworth College… UNLV's Jan Kutnik won the 1000 free (9:31.67) and the 500 free (4:35.21) against GCU and California Baptist.
Other diver nominees: Grand Canyon's Michael Winfrey placed first in the 1 meter (288.25) and second in the 3 meter (266.30) against UNLV and California Baptist.
