Utah Valley's Jake Morgan and Grand Canyon's Scott Marshall have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 9-15.
Morgan, a senior from Mona, Utah, set a new program record in the 500m at the BYU Cougar Indoor Invitational. He placed second in the 500m with a time of 1:04.60 breaking his own record by 1.63 seconds. He also took 15th overall in the 60m semifinals with a time of 7.33 seconds.
Marshall, a redshirt junior from Tempe, Ariz., placed first in the pole vault at the NAU Friday Night Duels against Arizona and Arizona State. He broke his own GCU indoor record and earned the top rank in the WAC with a mark of 5.30m.
Other track nominees: Grand Canyon's Anthony Phelps placed third in the 400m (47.62) at the NAU Friday Night Duels… UMKC's Bryce Miller won the 3000m (8:26.61) at the Holiday Inn Invitational.
Other field nominees: Utah Valley's Albert MacArthur won the long jump (6.88m) at the BYU Invitational… UMKC's Richard Smith placed third in the triple jump (15.31m) at the Holiday Inn Invitational… UTRGV's Paul May finished fifth in the shot put (15.40m) and tenth in the weight throw (15.71m) at the Aggie Team Invitational.
