DENVER - Northern Arizona's Urte Kazakevicuite and CSU Bakersfield's Carlee Burks have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 16-22.
Kazakevicuite, a senior from Kaunas, Lithuania won both of her individual events against conference opponent, Northern Colorado. She won the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.55. She also won the 200 breast (2:20.15) breaking her own pool record by nearly a whole second. She had the overall top three ranked swims in the meet.
Burks, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., won both boards in the Runners' win against Fresno Pacific. She placed first in the 1 meter (311.48) and the 3 meter (307.20). She won the 1 meter by almost 58 points, breaking the school's record and giving Burks the top spot for both boards in CSUB's record books. Her score in the 1 meter also earned her the top spot in the WAC, making her first in the conference for both the 3 meter and 1 meter.
Other swimmer nominees: CSUB's Paola Hernandez won the 200 IM (2:06.23), 100 free (52.24), and 200 free (1:53.54) against Fresno Pacific… Seattle U's Paige Treff won the 50 free (23.89) and 100 free (53.79) against Simon Fraser… Idaho's Clothilde Peseux won the 100 breast (1:05.49), 200 breast (2:21.44), and 200 IM (2:08.35) against Oregon State.
Other diver nominees: Northern Arizona's Alexa Geiger placed first in the 3 meter (310.28) and second in the 1 meter (286.80).
