DENVER - UMKC's Bryce Miller and Grand Canyon's Marcus Flannigan have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 23-29.
Miller, a senior from Ashland, Wis., placed first in the mile at the Jayhawk Classic. His time of 4:10.63 ranks first in the WAC. He also ran a leg of the DMR that took first place with a time of 10:18.28.
Flannigan, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., placed second in the long jump at the Washington Invitational. His mark of 7.43m ranks first in the WAC by nearly a foot. He also ran the 60m (6.96) and 200m (21.86), earning fifth place in each.
Other track nominees: Grand Canyon's Sam Proctor placed 11th of 36 in the 5000m (14:39.65) at the UW Invitational, ranking first in the conference… Seattle U's Matt Seidel placed 53rd of 82 in the 3000m (8:30.70) at the UW Invitational… UTRGV's Alberto Herrera finished 8th of 36 in the mile (4:22.68) at the Houston Invitational.
Other field nominees: UTRGV's Paul May finished 10th of 34 in the weight throw (16.8m) and 14th in the shot put (15.11m) at the Houston Invitational… Seattle U's Jordan Kenison placed 16th of 19 in the triple jump (13.43m) at the UW Invitational… UMKC's Lucas Van der Watt placed fifth of seven in the pole vault (16'4â€) at the Jayhawk Classic.
