WAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Grand Canyon's Kelsi Klotter and Tarasue Barnett have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 23-29.

Klotter, a redshirt senior from Eugene, Ore., broke a GCU indoor record at the Washington Invitational. She finished 17th of 46 in the 5,000 meter with a time of 17:41.71. Her time beat the previous record by over 42 seconds and ranks first in the WAC by nearly 12 seconds.

Barnett, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, placed fourth of 47 in the weight throw at the Washington Invitational. Her toss (18.42m) ranks first in the WAC by 1.37m. She also placed 26th of 43 in the shot put (12.71m) ranking her 6th in the WAC.

Other track nominees: UMKC's Sarah Fogarty won the 3000m (10:02.75) at the Jayhawk Classic, ranking first in the WAC… Seattle U's Lila Rice placed 52nd of 75 in the mile (5:02.49) at the UW Invitational, ranking first in the WAC… UTRGV's Krysta Martinez finished 9th of 36 in the mile (5:09.10) at the Houston Invitational.

Other field nominees: UMKC's Christy Nell tied for ninth in the pole vault (10'9”) at the Jayhawk Classic… Seattle U's Caylah Lunning placed 14th of 49 in the long jump (5.38m) at the UW Invitational.
