DENVER - Grand Canyon's Francois Musitelli and Seattle U's Caroline Maltby have been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for January 23-29.
Musitelli, a freshman from Dijon, France, won both flight one singles matches against Northern Colorado and Air Force. He beat NCU 7-5, 6-2. He clinched the team victory for GCU by beating Air Force 7-5, 6-1. He is undefeated in singles in flight 1, so far. He also teamed up with Mathieu Rajaonah to beat Air Force in flight 2 doubles (6-3), but fell in doubles to NCU (7-5).
Maltby, a freshman from Glen Ellyn, Ill., beat a PAC-12 opponent in singles in Seattle U's match against Washington. She won her singles match, 6-4, 6-4, but fell in doubles (6-2) with her partner Kailyn Skjonsby.
Other male nominees: UTRGV's Kolby Jansen won both singles matches and one doubles match against Prairie View A&M and UT San Antonio… Seattle U's John Stormans won his singles match against Portland State… New Mexico State's Cristofer Goncalves won his singles match and his doubles match against Mesa Community College.
Other female nominees: UTRGV's Dominique Ibarra won her singles match against St. Mary's… New Mexico State's Rimpledeep Kaur won her singles match and her doubles match against Mesa Community College.
