WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER - NM State's Brooke Salas has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 2 through Jan. 8.

Salas, a sophomore guard from Placentia, Calif. (El Dorado HS), led the Aggies to a pair of wins to open conference play. In the WAC-opener against UMKC, she scored 17 points and brought down seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals as the Aggies came from behind to win 78-72. On Saturday, she finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, adding four assists, one block and one steal, in a blowout win over Chicago State. This is her second player of the week honor this season and the third of her career.

Other nominees included: Chicago State's Kaylee Allen continued to lead the Cougars, posting a pair of 20-point games on the road at UT Rio Grande Valley and NM State … Grand Canyon's Jessica Gajewski notched a team-leading 22 points in a win at Utah Valley on Saturday … Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery led SU to a WAC-opening win over CSU Bakersfield, scoring 20 points and bringing down seven rebounds … UT Rio Grande Valley's Mary Savoy scored in double-digits three times on the week as the Vaqueros went 3-0 ... Utah Valley's Taylor Gordon scored 21 points in a loss to Grand Canyon.
