DENVER- Kansas City's Reighan Childers and Halle Hamilton have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 9-15.
Childers, junior midfielder from Grain Valley, Mo. (Grain Valley High School), scored all three of the team's goals over the weekend. On Friday she helped her team with the two goals in regulation for a 2-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield. Childers then scored the game-winning golden goal on Sunday with just 25 seconds into overtime for the 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon. All three goals were scored from at least 20 yards out to help her team stay at the top of the standings being 4-0 in conference play.
Hamilton, sophomore defender from Lincoln, Neb. (Lincoln Southwest High School), led the Roos defensive line in two shutout conference victories over the weekend. Seeing the field all 181 minutes as outside back, Hamilton was relied on to shut down offensive threats. Both matches on the road, she helped her team to a 2-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield and a 1-0 overtime victory over Grand Canyon.
Other offensive nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Aminah Settles assisted the equalizer and scored the game-winner in the 6-1 victory over Chicago State, which made her the Division I career goals leader for the program… NM State's Audriana Chavez scored a penalty kick in the 5-2 loss to Utah Valley as well as the first goal in the 2-1 victory over Seattle U… UT Rio Grande Valley's Sarah Bonney scored the game-tying goal with seven minutes left in the match against Utah Valley to force overtime in the 2-1 single overtime loss… Utah Valley's Breanna DeWaal scored two goals and recorded an assist in the 5-2 victory over NM State and scored the game-winning golden goal in the 2-1 overtime victory over UT Rio Grande Valley for a seven point weekend.
Other defensive nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Jordan Bertram made five saves in the 2-0 loss to Kansas City and one save in the 6-1 victory over Chicago State… NM State's Cristina Bertoldo played all 180 minutes at defense, which included the 5-2 loss to Utah Valley and the 2-1 victory over Seattle U… UT Rio Grande Valley's Marcela Ramirez captained a defense that shutout Seattle U at Championship Field for the first time since Sept. 5, 2016 in the double overtime tie, as well as contributed to two team saves in the 2-1 overtime loss to Utah Valley… Utah Valley's Libby Weber played a key defensive midfield role to help anchor the UVU defense.
