KANSAS CITY'S CHILDERS AND HAMILTON TAKE HOME PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Kansas City's Reighan Childers and Halle Hamilton have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 9-15.

Childers, junior midfielder from Grain Valley, Mo. (Grain Valley High School), scored all three of the team's goals over the weekend. On Friday she helped her team with the two goals in regulation for a 2-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield. Childers then scored the game-winning golden goal on Sunday with just 25 seconds into overtime for the 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon. All three goals were scored from at least 20 yards out to help her team stay at the top of the standings being 4-0 in conference play.

Hamilton, sophomore defender from Lincoln, Neb. (Lincoln Southwest High School), led the Roos defensive line in two shutout conference victories over the weekend. Seeing the field all 181 minutes as outside back, Hamilton was relied on to shut down offensive threats. Both matches on the road, she helped her team to a 2-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield and a 1-0 overtime victory over Grand Canyon.

Other offensive nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Aminah Settles assisted the equalizer and scored the game-winner in the 6-1 victory over Chicago State, which made her the Division I career goals leader for the program… NM State's Audriana Chavez scored a penalty kick in the 5-2 loss to Utah Valley as well as the first goal in the 2-1 victory over Seattle U… UT Rio Grande Valley's Sarah Bonney scored the game-tying goal with seven minutes left in the match against Utah Valley to force overtime in the 2-1 single overtime loss… Utah Valley's Breanna DeWaal scored two goals and recorded an assist in the 5-2 victory over NM State and scored the game-winning golden goal in the 2-1 overtime victory over UT Rio Grande Valley for a seven point weekend.

Other defensive nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Jordan Bertram made five saves in the 2-0 loss to Kansas City and one save in the 6-1 victory over Chicago State… NM State's Cristina Bertoldo played all 180 minutes at defense, which included the 5-2 loss to Utah Valley and the 2-1 victory over Seattle U… UT Rio Grande Valley's Marcela Ramirez captained a defense that shutout Seattle U at Championship Field for the first time since Sept. 5, 2016 in the double overtime tie, as well as contributed to two team saves in the 2-1 overtime loss to Utah Valley… Utah Valley's Libby Weber played a key defensive midfield role to help anchor the UVU defense.

TOP DRAWER TEAM
Just a week after teammate Abby Small was named to the Top Drawer Team of the Week, Kansas City's Reighan Childers was named as one of the midfielders for the week of Oct. 9-15. The Missouri native accounted for all three of UMKC's goals last week, as she scored a brace in a 2-0 win against CSU Bakersfield, which backed up a goal in a 1-0 defeat of Grand Canyon. Another Roos competitor, Halle Hamilton, was listed as honorable mention for her performance last week alongside her teammate.

LET'S TALK NUMBERS
NM State leads the WAC with 32 goals while Utah Valley is on top of the leader board with 95 points, 261 shots, 123 corner kicks and 35 assists. Kansas City has the most shutouts with nine but UT Rio Grande Valley has the best goals against average (0.83).

Individually, NM State's Audriana Chavez scored two goals this past weekend to push her at the top of the leaderboard with nine goals on the season. Four of those nine were game-winners which puts her at the top with CSU Bakersfield's Kamari Hines. NM State's Devin Hart had a two point weekend keeping her at the top of the leaderboard with 22 points. Hart, Utah Valley's Tori Smith and teammate Breanna DeWaal each have six assists. Grand Canyon's McKenzie Cook leads the WAC with 58 shots. Defensively, Kansas City's Erin Roth has the best goals against average (0.45) as well as the best save percentage (0.875). Roth, NM State' Dmitri Fong, UT Rio Grande Valley's Erica Gonzalez and Kansas City's Anna Lillig all have four shutouts and Chicago State's Audra Wisehart has made 81 saves this season.

HAT TRICK
Utah Valley's Breanna McCarter is just the second WAC women's soccer player to score a hat trick this season. She scored her first goal against Chicago State in the 14th minute. In the second half she found the back of the net in the 53rd minute and completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute. McCarter became the fifth Wolverine in the program's history to record a hat trick. Seattle U's Leahi Manthei was the only other WAC player to score a hat trick back in September when she scored four out of the five goals to become victorious over Idaho.

RECORDS
CSU Bakersfield reset their all-time school record for the amount of shots taken in a game on Sunday. As they were matched up with Chicago State, the Roadrunners found themselves with 40 shots taken after the 6-1 victory.

READY TO GO
Grand Canyon is finally done with their four season wait and is now eligible for post season play. Since joining the WAC in 2013, Grand Canyon has consistently shown they can compete while never finding themselves lower than fourth in the ranks at the end of each season. Along with this eligibility, Grand Canyon was chosen to host this upcoming WAC tournament and is eligible to play in the NCAA tournament.

CSU BAKERSFIELD'S GREEN SHOWING SOME "CLASS"
CSU Bakersfield women's soccer student-athlete Maja Green was one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Green will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration. She currently holds a 3.62 cumulative grade-point average and is on pace to graduate cum laude. She has earned Academic All-WAC honors in each of her first three seasons at CSU Bakersfield and is expected to complete her fourth season with the honor as well.

Green has been at the heart of every community service event in which the team has been involved. Whether it's reading in schools or coaching young players at clinics, she goes above and beyond to make it the best experience for everyone. As a captain, she also has helped the team organize events in the community and communicate the importance of them.

Even as a defender, Green ranks on the school's top 20 all-time list in career points and goals. She is on pace to break the CSUB Division I record for matches started and minutes played. She has been a constant fixture on the CSUB back line and has helped the Roadrunner defense transform into a formidable wall. Prior to her arrival at CSUB, the 2013 squad allowed its opponents to score nearly three times as many goals. A year ago, with Green leading the effort, the ‘Runners narrowed the gap to only five goals difference. She has been honored by the WAC several times including first team All-WAC (2016), second team All-WAC (2014) and being named preseason All-WAC twice in her career.

Unfortunately, she wasn't chosen to be one of the ten finalists.
