DENVER - Grand Canyon's Samiha Mohsen and NM State's Raina Brommer have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 17-23.
Mohsen, a junior from Cairo, Egypt, helped her team come out victorious in the dual meet over Seattle U and Loyola Marymount. She won the 50 free event in both meets posting times of 23.42 and 23.87. Mohsen's time was the highest rated swim in the free event for the WAC this week. She then also won the 100 free event in both meets recording times of 51.94 and 52.56. Mohsen then helped her relay team win the 200 medley with a time of 1:46.50 and the 200 free recording a time of 1:38.21.
Brommer, a junior from Riverside, Calif., competed in both the three-meter and one-meter board events and finished second and third in the team loss to Wyoming. She had the second highest score in the three-meter event with a 280.43 score. Brommer then posted the third highest score in the one-meter event with a score of 242.55.
Other swimmer nominees: NM State's Reagan Nentwich finished first in the 100 fly (57.77) and second in the 200 fly (2:09.49) against Wyoming… Seattle U's Bryn Lasher won the 100 fly (57.47) for the seventh-fasted time in program history as well as took second in both the 200 fly (2:06.50) and the 200 medley relay (1:50.27).
Other diver nominee: CSU Bakersfield's Hannah Chernabaeff placed fifth in the one-meter board with 215.48 points and fourth on the three-meter board with 228.83 points.
