Utah Valley Falls at No. 1 Stanford in NCAA Tournament

Stanford, Calif.- The Utah Valley women's soccer team fell 9-1 at No. 1 Stanford in an NCAA Tournament first-round match Saturday night.

Stanford (19-1-0) scored its first goal within six minutes of the starting whistle. Madison Haley used the outside of her foot to finish on the inside of the left post from the top of the box. About three minutes later, her teammate Civana Kuhlmann increased the lead as she closed down the Utah Valley goalkeeper and tapped it in.

Utah Valley (10-12-1) cut the score in half as it found the back of the net. Sydney Fitzpatrick served a corner and found teammate Libby Weber (16:55) to put her team on the scoreboard making the game 2-1.

The Cardinal then continued its scoring in the first half from a long distance shot from Jaye Boissiere (27:34), a header off of a corner by Tierna Davidson (30:26), a one-time finish from Catarina Macario (31:56) and a header from Belle Briede (41:21). Both teams went into the locker room for halftime with Stanford leading 6-1.

In the second half Stanford found the back of the net three more times as Madison Haley finished from the left side of the goal (48:02) and Sam Tran scored the last two goals of the match, one from long distance (83:33) and the other from short (86:39).

Stanford outshot Utah Valley 33-11. Brooklyn Nielsen tallied nine saves in net for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines' squad qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
