Seattle U Falls to Akron in NCAA Second Round

AKRON, Ohio - After falling behind in the first 10 minutes, 23rd-ranked Seattle U couldn't extend the 2017 season, falling 3-0 to third-ranked Akron in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Cub Cadet Field in Akron, Ohio.

Akron got on the board in the seventh minute as Sam Gainford put the ball in the net following a turnover deep in the Seattle U end. The Zips made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute as Stuart Holthusen beat SU keeper Josh Adachi one-on-one. Akron added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to secure the win and a trip to the round of 16.

Alex Roldan led the Redhawks with three shots, one of which required a save by Akron keeper Ben Lundt. Akron outshot Seattle U, 12-4, on the game and had 12 corner kicks, compared with two for Seattle U.

Seattle U ends its season with a record of 15-4-4, having reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the third time in the past five seasons.
