DENVER -UT Rio Grande Valley's Laura Van Tilburg has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 20 through Nov. 26.
Van Tilburg, a senior center from Weslaco, Texas (Weslaco HS), helped the Vaqueros to a trio of wins at home. She opened the week with a 14-point, 12-rebound performance in a 78-43 win against Texas Lutheran. Against Florida A&M, she scored 11 points with eight rebounds, also adding three assists, in a 51-38 defensive showdown. Van Tilburg wrapped up the week with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in a 78-62 win over Prairie View A&M. The strong performances earned her a spot on the Feast of Sharing All-Tournament team.
Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Aja Williams scored 14 points with seven rebounds in a home win over Cal State Fullerton … Chicago State's Ines Mata Boix averaged a double-double on the week with 12.7 ppg and 12.0 rpg … Kansas City's Aries Washington averaging 18.5 ppg as the Roos dropped a pair on the road … NM State's Brooke Salas led the Aggies in scoring on the week, averaging 20.3 points per game in a home win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and neutral site losses to Texas Southern and Arkansas … Seattle U's Alexis Montgomery earned the double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Portland State and then added 12 points and nine rebounds in a loss to UC Davis … Utah Valley's Taylor Christensen averaged 12.0 ppg as the Vaqueros dropped a pair of road games at Brigham Young and Eastern Washington.
