DENVER - One women's soccer player from the Western Athletic Conference has been recognized for success in the classroom, being honored as an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Grand Canyon senior defender Kelsey Smith earned Second Team honors. Majoring in Biology, she holds a 3.96 grade-point average while also starting all 21 matches for the Lopes this past season.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
