CSUB Falls at No. 3 Seed Stanford in NCAA Tournament

PALO ALTO, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield saw its season come to an end with a sweep (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) at No. 3-seed Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday. The Roadrunners finish the season 19-14.

After CSUB led 6-4 early in the first set, Stanford used an 11-3 run to take a 15-9 lead and later scored nine straight points to go on to the 25-11 win.

The Cardinal scored the first four points of the second set and jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Stanford built its lead to as many as 11 before going on to the 25-15 victory.

In the final set, CSUB led early before Stanford used a 15-2 run to take an 18-5 lead. The 'Runners rattled off four straight points before the Cardinal went on to win the match with a 25-17 set three victory.

CSUB was out-hit .417 to .011 on the match. The Cardinal also out-blocked the 'Runners 15.5-1.

Aleksandra Djordjevic led the 'Runners with seven kills and nine digs, while Sydney Haynes and Briannah Mariner added six kills apiece. Sidney Kicks dished out 13 assists, while Fabiana Andrade finished with 10.

Emily Lopes finished with eight digs on the night to finish the season with 629, good for third place all-time in the CSUB Division I record books and fifth in WAC history.
