WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
Utah Valley's Anthony Ocegueda and Alex Lawrence have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
Ocegueda, a freshman from Sparks, Nev., ran an 8:19.31 converted from an 8:36.79 due to track size and altitude in the 3,000 meter for the nation's best time by about 1.5 seconds. This performance was enough to break Utah Valley's program record, besting former Wolverine Jason Lynch's previous record (8:19.56) in 2016.
Lawrence, a freshman from Boise, Idaho, also posted a Utah Valley program record in the pole vault this past weekend with a mark of 5.00 meters. This marks him first in the WAC and eighth in the nation. He beat out the previous school record of 4.80 meters set by former Utah Valley jumper Matt Williams in the 2012 indoor season.
Other track nominees: Chicago State's Ricordo McKenzie set a new school record in the 60-meter dash while recording a time of 6.88… Kansas City's Jamarice Preston set a personal best of 7.12 in the 60-meter dash as well as ran a time of 49.81 in the 400-meter dash.
